Journey to the Center of the Blues Mini-Camp - Aug. 24, 2019

Attention String players! Journey to the Center of the Blues …

Sat. Aug. 24, in Hampton Falls, NH I’ll be hosting and teaching an all-ages 10 hr. mini - camp (10:00 AM – 8:00 PM) called Journey to the Center of the Blues. It will be an innovative, simultaneous Blues teaching & Performance Mini Camp geared to teaching Blues techniques for a wide variety of stringed instruments and playing levels. Cost are $100 (or $75 if registered before Aug.1st) Tuition includes both lunch and dinner. Event is Rain or shine. For more info contact Tj Wheeler @ 978 973 1709 or send a FB PM. More info also at www.tjwheeler.netNo Journey is complete without a map….here’s your basic info! From early Country Blues, Jug Bands, early Black string bands, on up to various urban Blues traditions, solo to ensemble playing techniques will be focused on. We’ll also emphasize how to integrate Blues lines into a variety of other related musical genres e.g. Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Rock & Roll, R & B, Reggae etc. (as an accompanist or featured performer.)All string players (from early intermediate to advance players) are encouraged to attend especially Guitar, Slide & Cigar Box guitars, Ukulele, Mandolin, Fiddle / violin, 4 & 5 string banjo, and Bass (upright or bass guitar. ) Blues vocal styling will also be explored in regards to singing while accompanying yourself (or another vocalist.)The teaching focus will be to teach technique through teaching individual songs in group classes. Each song will be orchestrated so no matter what level each player is at, they’ll be able to contribute a solid (and challenging) piece to the Blues musical puzzle. There will be also smaller classes in which I’ll meet & teach with each learning level that will be followed up with a practice time for each group. The registration form will include several boxes and a blank space to fill out describing what several teaching areas you’d like to see focused on. This will help me create the lesson plans for this event.Towards the end of the day they’ll be an open mike followed by the entire camp ensemble performing all the material learned that day that will be open to the public to attend.Assisting me in all aspects of the camp will be my apprentice for the last 5 years Felix Taracena.
